The University of South Carolina Upstate
is a coeducational, public, comprehensive metropolitan institution.
Founded in 1967, USC Upstate strives to be one of the Southeast's leading
"metropolitan" universities that acknowledges as its fundamental reason
for being its relationship to its surrounding cities, their connecting
corridors and expanding populations. As a senior comprehensive public
institution of the University of South Carolina, the University's
primary responsibilities are to offer baccalaureate education to the
citizens of Upstate South Carolina and to offer selected master's
degrees in response to regional demand. Eap Enrollment for Fall 2003
exceeds 4,500 students, which reflects the diversity of the region
with 72 nations represented among the student population.
The University is fully accredited to offer degree programs in the
College of Arts and Sciences, the Schools of Business, Education and
Nursing, and the graduate division. USC Upstate offers the only graphics
design degree program in South Carolina and is the largest provider
at the University Center of Greenville, a nonprofit consortium of
seven higher education institutions dedicated to increasing access
to educational opportunities for the citizens of the Greater Greenville
Metropolitan Area of South Carolina.
As a charter member of the Peach Belt Conference in Division II of
the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), USC Upstate has a very
competitive athletic program with a winning tradition in both men's
and women's sports.
